2.1 - What is a domain name?

Your domain name is the address for your website, such as “internetnamesforbusiness.com”. This is a unique identifier that allows people to find your website quickly and easily. Domain names are registered on an annual basis and the maximum ownership period is nine years. There are many domain “types” (called “TLDs”, Top Level Domains) such as .com, .net, .org, .biz and .info. There are also country-specific TLDs such as .ca for Canada and .us for the United States.
